On May 17, 2023, Grumpy Cat Limited, the extremely litigious corporation that owns the rights to the famous memes “Nyan Cat” and “Grumpy Cat,” served a cease and desist demand letter to the makers of the “Grumpy Cat Coin” and “Nyan Meme Coin” tokens via
Even as a holder of a Masters Degree in Public Finance and an experienced Options trader I am amazed that Ed can keep this shit straight. Crypto is a scam within a scam of scammers scamming scammers. With apologies to Monty Python ..... “scam, scam, scam, scam, scam.”
After an entire decade of having my belief in humanity damaged by the ever-churning Ponzi scheme of Crypto as a whole...
It is so gratifying to see the house of cards show signs of suffering a truly major collapse. It has always been a scam, the very 'best' case scenario of it being Tulip Mania, and so any loss to crypto people fills me with joy.
Fully agree - the government should claw away every penny these chucklefucks have. They have no business doing anything more complicated than working a lemonade stand.
"In plain English, this means that they do not have enough money to pay themselves back for the loan that they took out from themselves to themselves."
This is almost exactly how I've been describing crypto news to my wife, who began utterly flummoxed by the very concept of crypto, but who now, thanks to media like this newsletter and Dan Olson's brilliant documentary, laughs along with me at the ridiculous, incestuous web of deception and stupidity that ties the whole thing together. I'm so glad I never let anyone talk me into buying Bitcoin; I'm sure I would have been sucked into the rest of it eventually.
When Silicon Valley VCs rushed in, I thought all was lost. Their paper losses are not enough. Every one of them should be named and shamed, and any founder worthy of respect needs to avoid the Crypto Hype VCs like the plague.
The term "Scum Economy" encapsulates a disturbing reality in our society, where unscrupulous individuals exploit others for personal gain. It highlights the prevalence of unethical practices, scams, and fraudulent schemes that harm innocent individuals and tarnish the reputation of honest businesses.
Plagiarism obviously isn't new, but the the NFT fad a few years ago also created a huge spike in the amount of plagiarism and identity theft. I ran a twitter account called @NFTtheft which documented the harm NFTs were causing artists and fans, and helped call out companies like OpenSea for ignoring valid copyright takedowns from artists. https://twitter.com/NFTtheft
The problem of plagiarism and identity theft in NFTs is unsolvable. The two go hand and hand. The only thing that ever reduced the amount of plagiarism in the NFT space was the crypto crash. If it ever comes back, so will all the problems it is causing.
